Dicky Hopkins was born in Columbia, South Carolina. In 1959 his family returned to Mt. Pleasant, where he has resided since. He graduated from General William Moultrie High School in Mt. Pleasant in 1971.

He attended the University of South Carolina and earned a B.A. Degree in Psychology in May, 1975. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in December, 1981 and became licensed by the South Carolina Bar in April, 1982.

Dicky entered practice with his father, C.D. Hopkins, Jr., an experienced trial lawyer. In 1985, Dicky was appointed as staff attorney for the City of North Charleston where he prosecuted criminal and traffic cases. In 1987, he joined with Nick Sottile in forming the firm.

Dicky's general practice includes criminal law, divorce, child custody, real estate and traffic offenses.

Dicky is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, the Charleston County Bar Association, and the Palmetto Land Title Association. He is also a licensed title insurance agent.

Dicky is a past president of the Exchange Club of Mt. Pleasant, where he was voted Exchangite of the Year in 1992 and served on the club's Board of Directors for six years. He was active in the many community projects sponsored by the Exchange Club. He served on the Town of Mt. Pleasant Board of Planning and Zoning from September, 1991 to June 1999.

Dicky is married to Beth McLean, a local artist, and they reside on Sullivan's Island. He has one son and one daughter, both of whom recently earned their college degrees.
